  2. Welcome to Pokemon Perfect, Guest!

Our motto is Pokémon Practice makes Pokémon Perfect. We are a competitive-battling community that encourages the development of players and their ideas, and fosters positive and respectful attitudes. We love Collaboration (working together), Competition (getting stronger), and Communication (being informed).

You are free to post everywhere, unless the thread explicitly states otherwise (usually in the case of a vote), and there are no private forums whatsoever. We just require you to not make multiple accounts. Let us greet you by posting a thread in the Introduce Yourself! forum.

  3. Tiers

View Introduction to Tiers if you don't know what tiers are. Pokémon Perfect tiers are named differently to those on Smogon. A numeral followed by the letter U, e.g. 1U, 2U, 3U, represents a main tier on Pokémon Perfect – the '1' of '1U' representing the tier level. For a tier to be a main tier, it must be balanced (nothing is too powerful and game-breaking) and diverse enough (include a variety of Pokémon and strategies). A numeral followed by the letter P, e.g. 1P, 2P, 3P contain all Pokémon that are deemed overpowered in the respective 1U, 2U, 3U tiers. The 1st tier level allows Pokémon that are banned in the 2nd level, and this process continues down. Read the tier list, and in-depth explanations of the tiers naming system and tiering system. Also check out our analyses for all tiers.

  4. Tournaments

RBY 1U Seasons and its master tournaments are responsible for starting up the community, and tournaments continue to play a big role in maintaining interest in the forums. Signups Open gives you a list of tournaments you can join, and Ongoing lists tournaments that you might want to follow. Additionally, you can tap to find out approximate Schedules for tournaments.

For historical threads, check out Signups Closed, Finished tournaments and Results. We also have Nominations, Voting and Event threads for exhibitions – past and present.

This is an RBY exhibition series intended to be an opportunity to play RBY in a tournament like setting, while cutting down as much as the nonsense that goes along with tournaments as possible.

Each week you can sign up for as many games as you like. I will generate pairings and then everyone plays their games and posts the replays back in this thread. At the end of the week everyone votes on their favourite game, and the players in the winning game get prizes! Then the following week, you can sign up for as many games as you want again (or none, if you prefer).

There will also be overall prizes for best ELO (calculated from the games) and longest win streak at the end of the series, which will be Monday the 6th of April.

I am intending to use the replays from this series in my RBY guide. So be aware that your games might be saved for posterity in what is sure to be the worlds greatest video game guide ever created.

Also this is an experimental format so I may have to change things as we go.

    Time Blocks
In order to reduce the hassle of scheduling, I am going to use an experimental format to generate pairings. The weekend will be split up into 10 6 hour blocks. When you sign up, please indicate which blocks you are able to play in, and I will find you opponents who have signed up for the same blocks as you.

You need to be able to play in at least 4 hours of the 6 hour block, that way you are guaranteed to have at least a one hour overlap with your opponent.

This does not mean you should not schedule games. You still are required to contact your opponent and work out a time that will work for you. But, hopefully, it will be much easier since you will have a clear window within which you can schedule.

    The blocks are:
    (all times are UTC)
    1, 18:00 Friday--00:00 Saturday
    2, 00:00--06:00 Saturday
    3, 06:00--12:00 Saturday
    4, 12:00--18:00 Saturday
    5, 18:00 Saturday--00:00 Sunday
    6, 00:00--06:00 Sunday
    7, 06:00--12:00 Sunday
    8, 12:00--18:00 Sunday
    9, 18:00 Sunday--00:00 Monday
    10, 00:00 Monday--06:00 Monday

    Rules
    - The battling rules are Smogon's RBY OU rules.
    - For each pairing play 1 game.
    - Draws are allowed, they do not need to be replayed.
    - You must post replays (you obviously cant win the weekly prize if you havent got a replay).
    - At the end of the week the any player who has played in any week of the tournament will be invited to vote for which game is the best of the week. Players cannot vote for a game they were involved with. Both players involved in the chosen game will receive a spot prize.
    - I have written a script to generate pairings. It will attempt to reduce the number of times you are required to play the same opponent, but will not guarantee it. I will probably need to update this script as we go.
    - You will only be paired with players who share a block with you.
    - There is no guarantee which blocks your games will be chosen from (EG. all of your games may be chosen from one block or from all different blocks).
    - You must be available for 4 hours of any block you sign up for.
    - You do not need to play within the blocks you have signed up for, provided both players agree.
    - ELO will be calculated based on each game in the order they are completed. I will write a Python script to do this, but I haven't done that yet.
    - Be courteous to your opponents. Do not insult or harass them. I know Pokemon can be stressful at times, but I am willing to disqualify people for bad behaviour.

    Prizes
    - The prizes will be vouchers. I am working from the assumption of Steam vouchers, but I can consider alternatives. The reason for this is that the cost of sending cash internationally makes it really not worth it. If any of the winners is based in New Zealand then I can do cash instead.
    - If you dont want the cash I can do a charity donation in your name instead.
    - The prizes for the best game of the week will be $15NZD (roughly $10USD) for each player.
    - The overall prizes will be $30NZD (roughly $20USD).

    Sign Ups
When you sign up please indicate how many games you wish to play and which blocks you will be available to play in.
    For example:

Sign ups will close each week on Monday evening New Zealand time. The first week I may give you a bit of extra time because of the short notice.

Good luck everyone, let's see what perspires.

    Have a nice day.

Nice idea, I was thinking of doing something similar by hosting regular RR tournaments on PP server, but tours seem to be disabled in the lobby and it's really hard for me to commit to hosting consistently anyway

    Blocks: 3, 6, 7
    Games: idk 3-5, probably 5?

BTW, however many games you sign up for, I will try to find you games but you may not get as many as you request. I intend to heavily weight giving everyone at least one game. I might be able to make it so that if you say 3-5 I weight getting 3 games more heavily, but for the time being I will just take the biggest number and if it works out you get fewer games then you'll have fewer games.
