    Introduction

Pidgeot faces competition from Scyther - Scyther is faster and has Swords Dance, but Pidgeot has a handful of minor differences that make it a little better as a hit-and-runner with a couple of its own unique tricks. Its Speed is very good, with only a couple of common Pokemon outspeeding it, and its Ground-type immunity helps a team dance around Nidoking as well as abuse its special tool Mirror Move. It is also a little bulkier than Scyther and lacks a Fire-type weakness. Whilst it's not an exceptional Pokemon, and with a couple of really poor matchups, it still puts in its fair share of work most games and should find an occasional spot on your teams and in your battles.

    Bird Jesus

    Pidgeot
    - Hyper Beam
    - Double Edge
    - Mirror Move
    - Toxic / Quick Attack

    Set Details

Hyper Beam is its most powerful attack option, boosted by STAB, whilst Double Edge is its most powerful option that lacks the possibility of a recharge turn. Mirror Move is a tool that can come in handy in a bunch of situations. For example, it can switch in versus Nidoking's Earthquake and retaliate without risk of recoil or recharge, and should it switch into Venomoth or Tangela on Sleep Powder and it misses, it can Mirror Move Sleep Powder in retaliation, or use the opportunity that this grants in forcing its foes out to fire off a powerful Double Edge before retreating. There are a number of options for the final slot. Toxic is its best option versus Omastar which walls Pidgeot easily, and prevents Dragonair from setting up versus it. Quick Attack allows a last-gasp attack when weakened and slower (possibly due to paralysis) although it is weak.

    Other Options

Agility can be used to negate the speed drop of paralysis or to help it outspeed Arcanine, Rapidash, and Scyther, although it is unlikely to be useful often. Rest is an interesting option to make use of its okay bulk, although it is less bulky than other common users of the move, and most Pokemon can 3HKO Pidgeot or better. Finally, Wing Attack is notable since it's its only option to hit the almost entirely unseen Gastly and gives it a somewhat strong option versus Venomoth and Scyther without recoil or recharge. Mimic is a poor option but not much less so than other options in Pidgeot's final moveslot. In some circumstances it might grant the opportunity to copy a useful move from an opponent, such as Omastar's Hydro Pump, and use it against them, although it is luck-based and requires a free turn that could probably be otherwise better used.

    Checks And Counters

Omastar is by far and away its best answer, taking pittance from Pidgeot's attacks and hitting hard in return. Arcanine, Rapidash, and other Pokemon which outspeed it work as decent checks, as do slower, bulky Pokemon such as Blastoise and Nidoking which can trade hits. Gastly entirely answers almost all Pidgeot but since it does little beyond that, it is a very rare sight.
