    Random thread says hi

Idk why I was thinking about this but a while ago someone in the community asked me what music I felt represented me as a player, I had no idea what to answer so I just gave him the one I listen to the most when i play a game

That led me to ask myself "what type of music do people listen to when they play" so I asked a couple people and actually a bunch of them told me they don't and they need silence to focus (which is fair enough obv but since that's not my case at all I never bothered thinking about it), I also know some people are quite nervous before important team tour games and need to listen to smth relaxing

So my question is the following: do you listen to music when you play an important game and why ? and if you do do you need relaxing/epic/pumping music or whatever else. I'm curious, but please don't spam links or anything because there's nothing more annoying than someone linking you 25 musics "maAaAAaaan you got to listen to this", so just say in general (i personally 100% need to blast pumping music when i play otherwise the situation has no flavor, so rap, dubstep, trance, dirty stuff in general)

Sometimes I have music, sometimes I don't. But I guess most of the time when I've really played my best it has been without music. For more casual though I play w/ music on for the most part.

I'm fine either way tbh. Music doesn't generally affect my play as far as I'm aware, but it would be nice to be checking out new music while I'm playing/browsing forums/whatever, simply because that way I'm doing multiple things at once. Normally I forget though, so it's just silence

edit: just found out about a band called Black Fast, they've made some bloody sick thrash

No, I never play any music, and I ignore spectators and my opponent. I prefer silence.

I always listen to music. Nothing too specific, just what I like at the time. Sometimes funnily enough though, I even listen to music that I associate with a fight, like Eye of the Tiger or something :D

I have music on every chance I get as I usually play on a phone and don't always have ear buds on me. When I am at a computer its two windows open. One is showdown the other is YouTube. And my first song is always oceans by john butler.
12 straight minutes of acoustic guitar brilliance. Relaxing vibes. Then I delax those vibes. Maybe some enter shikari. Flash flood of color album. Foo fighters are always a good choice. Attack attack. Dubstep with classical instruments accompanying. I have a wide range of tastes. But I feel that it helps me tune out distractions. Always john butlers oceans first though. It's the zone in song.

Personally I try to play without music, silence helps my focus a decent amount - but if I'm feeling energetic sometimes I will put on something calming to slow down and chill out a bit. Mostly listen to stuff from Bonobo and sometimes Tycho.

I know Troller literally can't play without music on but you'll have to ask him about specifics

I always play music, unless i forget, in which case after my match I am always just like "woah it's so quiet." I love to play music that gets me hype because it gets me in the mood to battle.

I always listen music in important games, it helps my mood, i can likely endure more haxes without losing the focus because the music don't allow me to stop my rhythm and thinking about bad luck. Otherwise with the silence i would have too much time to think "why is crap always happening, i wanted a clean one fuck" that's all

I can't play without music. This game is just too boring to be played in silence.
I usually listen my main playlist (basically rock/metal mainstream stuff). Also I used to listen exclusively U2 while playing against marcoasd, for obvious reasons.

I usually don´t listen to music when playing and especially when the game is important and I want to focus. When I am only spectating games I often have some music turned on (no specific genre).

I usually don´t listen to music while I play in a tournament, if I do, that´s a) because the background is too loud
or b) to help me being motivated/in the mood, which usually happens if I´m not hyped enough ( b) usually appears before a battle).
The music I then play is usually something to "power through", which isn´t necessarily a music with high ups/downs, but something that should help you being in sort of a rush (non genre specific).
Other than that, I sometimes listen to classic to help me sort my thoughts if I´m bothered with other things at the same time while I battle.

I'd never. Music I don't know would make me lose a part of my focus, Music I know would make me fall into autopilot patterns. When I play (or do something similar, like exams) I completely shut down everything else to focus on the task at hand. I don't need music to relax my mind, even tho I'm a musician myself, and taking in what you're hearing always uses a part of your concentration.

I listen to music when I'm laddering most of the time. Very rarely would I click on a playlist while having a tour game.

I think I have had some of my best games with music on, but honestly I don't really have a pattern for this. Like very often I turn on music when starting a series and just forget that it is running, if I put on a record I just forget to flip it, if it's not a playlist it just stops during a longer series and I only notice when the series is over. So I don't think it would have any real effect on me anyways, since I seem to not notice it anyways when playing. Ironically enough this is a lot worse than if I am reading and having music on next to it. Guess it's part of that whole flow-theory thing for me, once I am in the zone, once I got the flow for the game I can ignore things around me. I kinda doubt that music would trigger the flow easier or anything, I think it's just a non-factor for me when I play.

Regardless of that, since I just like having something chill running while I work too I tend to just put on some jazz or some downtempo or ambient stuff while playing.
